Alexander (currently at the University of Edinburgh) has played accordion for many years (not always on the 120 bass though) becoming a keen participant of the Lochaber Music Festival. He plays accordion with a group of students in Edinburgh, branching into the "folk" genre, whilst bringing a modern style to the band.
Learned what he knows from the left-handed fiddler Aonghais Grant, whom he performed with at Celtic Connections 2010. Also competes regularly on fiddle at the Royal National Mod, and, at the Wick Mod this year, won Silver in the singing competition. Also a keen member of West Highland Safari and Lochaber Ceilidh Trail, local contemporary folk groups in the West of Scotland. Likes a "good" Gordon Duncan tune.
Classically trained cellist, played for a few years in the National Children's Orchestra of Scotland, now a convert to Scottish traditional music. Likes a good West Coast 2/4 and plays piano for Scottish dance classes. Arranges the music, so "we graciously allowed him to join our band"!
Just a few years ago now, Alasdair started playing classical music and won the double bass competition at Lochaber Music Festival, after which he joined the Highland Regional Youth Orchestra. He has travelled to Norway with a local group, and was influenced by the style of one "Jazzman" in cool shades, whom they performed with there.
We would like to say thank you to family and friends for their indispensable support, and for putting up with Scottish dance music at all hours!
